As the coronavirus shutdowns continue, more and more artists are looking toward virtual options to share their work and entertain the public – and to raise badly-needed funds.

BrainVessel Gallery has organized one such showcase, titled “Fan-Tastic Virtual Voyage I,” scheduled for May 8. The event will be broadcast live online from 7-9 p.m.

A swearing-in for new CASAs, court-appointed special advocates, took place in Dauphin County, although not in a courtroom.

Dauphin County President Judge John Cherry swore in eight new members over Zoom.

They are now officially court-appointed special advocates for Dauphin County. Their mission, to serve as an independent set of eyes and ears fro the court for children in the dependency court system, reporting back to the judge, keeping the child’s best interest at heart.

Social distancing is changing the way volunteers advocate for foster children in Central Pennsylvania.

“We can’t go visit the children in person, and so we’re seeing them through FaceTime or Zoom or some virtual way,” volunteer Wanda Heise said.

Heise, like many others, is adapting to this new “normal.”

However, advocating for foster children from a distance comes with some challenges.

Looking for delicious eats? The event is full of food trucks and the area is full of restaurants.

The new 50,000 ft² museum and screening facility on Liberty Island used precast concrete for everything but the foundation, and this approach delivered multiple benefits. “Going with a prefabricated solution meant less time on site, and it accelerated installation,” said Bob Pabst, vice president of sales for High Concrete Group. “Assembling a building enclosure from multiple materials on site would have taken a lot longer, with more field labor and more waste generated.”

The precast concrete materials also brought significant sustainable benefits.

Cornerstone Coffeehouse and The Peyton Walker Foundation have teamed up for heart month.

The coffeehouse is serving up ‘Peyton’s Promises,’ inspired by 19-year-old Peyton Walker of Camp Hill who died from sudden cardiac arrest in 2013. 

One dollar from every drink sold will go to The Peyton Walker Foundation with a mission to increase awareness and survival rates of sudden cardiac arrest.

Lancaster has received more than $100,000 in grants.

The biggest grant, $76,500, will go a program that helps residents find housing after being displaced in emergencies.

The city’s Love Your Block campaign now has $30,000 more to continue projects, such as one that included a mural at South End Park.

The Neighborhood Leaders Academy was given $20,000.

Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts just celebrated their 20th anniversary.

For the past two decades, Whitaker Center has been serving children across Central P.A.

“The Whitaker Center is like the crowned jewel of downtown Harrisburg where we combine science, arts and performing arts,” said Whitaker Center Exhibits and Cinema Manager Joe Easton.
