Farmers and Consumers Forge New Links During Pandemic

The farm community is responding with heart to the COVID-19 pandemic. Farmer donations of milk, meat, eggs and produce are helping individuals and food banks in the increasingly difficult job of feeding needy families. Many of those families weren’t even close to needy two short months ago.

People who aren’t needy, who are able to weather the pandemic economics, are making it a point to buy from their local farm markets and farmer CSAs.

For child-advocate volunteers, the tough but gratifying part begins

Improvise. That’s been an important concept since COVID-19 demanded restrictions on our movements.

Christine Laney was about halfway through leading an intensive training for volunteers when the restrictions no longer allowed group meetings. Laney, an attorney who serves as executive director of Dauphin County CASA, simply gathered her volunteers together via Zoom.

Actually, “simply” might be the wrong word to use here.
