Karen Biondolillo has been named chief financial officer for the High companies, a diverse group of family-owned businesses and one of Central Pennsylvania’s largest employers.

Biondolillo takes responsibility for corporate finance, accounting, tax, and information technology departments, and joins the executive committee which provides strategic leadership to the High companies. She succeeds Mike Van Belle, who has been CFO since 2005 and recently announced his retirement.

Gov. Tom Wolf, making an appearance Thursday in Lancaster County, defended his proposal to keep the county’s celebrated career and technical college flat-funded this year, saying his administration has provided $20 million for other recent capital projects at the school.

He said those additional funds, as well as Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology’s option to apply for specific workforce development grants, is why the basic subsidy line-item did not include an increase despite the college’s output of graduates who go on to high-paying technical work that’s in demand.

As the Lancaster County Convention Center nears its 10th anniversary later this year, officials say it is not only meeting, but exceeding the economic-impact goals laid out for it.

“It’s providing a great return for the community,” said Kevin Molloy, the authority’s executive director.

Supporting his contention is a new report prepared by HVS, a Chicago-based consulting firm.

Former television anchor Flora Posteraro is back in front of the camera.

The longtime anchor for WHTM-TV, or abc27, who was fired by the station in March, has joined forces with Nell McCormack Abom, owner of public relations firm Nell McCormack Abom Communications, to launch a new weekly podcast series.

Ten years of legislative breakfasts in Pennsylvania during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, designed to raise money and awareness for the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance (PFSA), had resulted in no reduction in reports of child abuse. Working with Nell McCormack Abom Communications, PFSA looked to reinvigorate the program that targeted “mandated reporters”—those required under law to report child abuse—along with the general public.

High Real Estate Group on Tuesday held a topping-off ceremony for an addition to the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square, hoisting a symbolic last beam to the roof of the 12-floor, $39 million structure. About 90 company and project executives, local officials and community leaders attended. Before the 10-foot white beam was lifted, it was signed by local dignitaries and project leaders.
