Convention center exceeding goals for economic impact, study says

As the Lancaster County Convention Center nears its 10th anniversary later this year, officials say it is not only meeting, but exceeding the economic-impact goals laid out for it.

“It’s providing a great return for the community,” said Kevin Molloy, the authority’s executive director.

Supporting his contention is a new report prepared by HVS, a Chicago-based consulting firm. Its findings were presented recently to the Lancaster County commissioners.

The study (PDF), which is on the authority’s website, was required by a 2014 agreement between the convention center authority, the county, the city and the county visitors bureau.

It cost $27,000 plus expenses, paid for by a marketing consortium set up under the pact. Interstate Hotels & Resorts, which operates the convention center and adjacent Marriott hotel, does the consortium’s day-to-day work.
