On Thursday, the governor’s office announced Wolf has signed legislation that would strengthen the penalties against those convicted of aiding or encouraging a suicide. The parents of a Newberry Township woman who died by suicide pushed for the bill.
The bill is named in memory of Shawn Shatto, who was suffering from depression when she took her own life in 2019. She received step-by-step guidance on how to die by poisoning herself from an online chat forum.
