As the Lancaster County Convention Center nears its 10th anniversary later this year, officials say it is not only meeting, but exceeding the economic-impact goals laid out for it.
“It’s providing a great return for the community,” said Kevin Molloy, the authority’s executive director.
Supporting his contention is a new report prepared by HVS, a Chicago-based consulting firm. Its findings were presented recently to the Lancaster County commissioners.
The study (PDF), which is on the authority’s website, was required by a 2014 agreement between the convention center authority, the county, the city and the county visitors bureau.
It cost $27,000 plus expenses, paid for by a marketing consortium set up under the pact. Interstate Hotels & Resorts, which operates the convention center and adjacent Marriott hotel, does the consortium’s day-to-day work.
